“A disguised ad, livewithout telling the host, for some worthless NFT related thing, it’s utter madness. We’ve never seen that in a decade,” videographer Squeezie denounced live on his Twitch channel on Nov. 19. He refers to the strange publicity gesture of another videographerFanta, took place the day before.
For the opening of its Minecraft server, a paid multiplayer instance of Mojang’s famous game, the Inoxtag streamer has brought together some of the most famous videographers in the world of video games. Among them two figures from Youtube: Bob Lennon and TheFantasio974, nicknamed “Fanta”. The duo is known for participating in the popularization of Minecraft in France in the early 2010s.
Fanta caused controversy during the performance surprisingly presenting in front of his webcam a sheet on which the name of a “social network” was written, focusing on NFT speculation, in which the videographer has invested. This causes the surprise of the other videographers. His former sidekick, Bob Lennon, understands and exclaims: “He advertises!” Others do not understand and ask what it is. At that point, the Inoxtag host lets it pass and declares “He’s advertising! I authorize, I authorize”.
“Very strange, this gesture,” responds Squeezie
Once the surprise was over, the gesture left a bitter taste for several of the other contestants. In a live the next day on his Twitch channel, Squeezie explained that “Fanta claimed it was a shout out to a mate, but we all thought ‘very strange, this gesture’. And we learned after life that it was an ad for something NFTprobably very crazy.”
Fanta also responded, stating that his gesture was “not malicious”. Another streamer present, Gotaga, also disapproved of Fanta’s advertising campaign. Inoxtag, the host, for his part stated live: “I’m not going to put it back […] that’s history.”
