Correction (4:10 p.m., CT): Van Zandt County district attorney Tonda Curry told 247Sports on Monday afternoon that the initial incident happened in December of 2021. Overshown was stopped for speeding and there was a very small amount of marijuana in his vehicle. The July date represented the formal charge date (Overshown’s case was settled with a pretrial intervention). The Sept. 19 booking was a walk-through, where Overshown put his finger prints on file to formalize the jail booking for the Class B misdemeanor.
Original: Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was booked Monday for possession of marijuana in Van Zandt County, Texas, a police spokesperson told 247Sports.
Overshown had less than two ounces of marijuana in his possession and has since been released. A University of Texas spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment on the situation.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior linebacker has started every game for the Longhorns this season and ranks second on the team with 23 tackles.
He was ejected for targeting in the second half of Texas’ game with UTSA and, barring a reversal by the Big 12, will miss the first half of the Longhorns’ game on Saturday with Texas Tech based on targeting rules.
