Serena Williams US Open live updates: The 23-time Grand Slam winner takes on Ajla Tomljanovic in round three

Serena Williams is looking to continue her run at the 2022 US Open on Friday night in a third-round matchup with Ajla Tomljanovic. In her 21st, and likely final, US Open appearance, Williams is trying to avoid a third-round loss in New York for the first — and only — time since her first main draw appearance back in 1998. The 23-time Grand Slam champion who is looking to put another exclamation point on her iconic career with a surprise run at this tournament.

She entered at 50/1 odds to win, but those odds have shortened to 14/1, per Caesars Sportsbook. Winning the entire tournament would give Williams a seventh US Open title — breaking a tie with Chris Evert for the most singles championships at the US Open — and a 24th Grand Slam title, which would extend her Open-era record and tie the overall record set by Margaret Court.

Williams knocked out Danka Kovinic in straight sets in the first round and No. 2 seed Anett Kontaviet in a three-set, third-round match. Tomljanovic got to the third round by knocking out Karolína Muchova and Evgeniya Rodina. This is her second third-round appearance at the US Open (2021) and she has advanced to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon each of the last two years.

This is the first meeting between Williams and Tomljanovic. You can watch the match at 7 pm ET on ESPN and stream it on fuboTV (try for free).
